Summary: We had a short class this week as we had Saraswathi Pooja at the Ashram. It was lovely to see the children all dressed up for the occasion! We welcomed 3 new friends to our class this week. We started with Opening shlokas, followed by Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra. We then had a discussion about our 'homework' which was using kind words with everyone we interact with everyday. This will be an ongoing homework this year and always as it is the best way to Stop The Kali and destroy his sister Durukti! After this, we discussed the story of King Parikshit. Although Parkshit was one of the greatest kings, he made a mistake and put a dead snake around the neck of a meditating sage. He was overcome by fatigue and thirst! The sage's son, Sringi, became very angry when he saw the dead snake around his father's neck and cursed the doer of such a disrespectful action to be bitten by Takshaka, the king of Serpents in 7 days! The king regretted his action and was relieved to know that he was awarded a punishment. When faced with imminent death, the king made good use of his remaining time on earth by listening to Srimad Bhagavatam, the great stories of Bhagavan from his Guru Sage Sukadeva! As we mentioned in our class meeting, this year our focus will be mainly on Krishna Avatara and Krishna Leela! We have also given the children a Bingo sheet which we will use throughout the year as we learn more. We then finished up and went to the Prayer Hall for the Saraswathi Pooja. We have more interesting topics coming up in the following classes! We will meet next week for the next class.
