                              "OM saha naavavathu..."

3.)  Lessons covered so far from Alphabet Safari:
       "A" for Aspiration

Aspiration is strong determination/ambition/resolve to achieve our goal.
Having a goal is very important to succeed in life.
              I want to be a ..................(teacher/football player/architect/artist/chef/singer/doctor/truck driver etc.)

              Story:  "The Best Archer"
Through this story, children learnt how Arjuna with his single-pointed attention & hard work was able to achieve his aspiration of becoming the best archer of his time.

      "B" for Brotherhood

Brotherhood is a sense of togetherness and belonging and treating everyone with respect as each of us are unique and special.  We discussed family - and how we can make the entire world as one big family.
"Vasudaiva Kutumbakam" - The whole world is one family.

              Story: "The Complete Picture"
It's a story about a box of crayons that did not get along with one another and how a little girl helped realize the crayons to appreciate each other.  All the crayons agree that their unique & special qualities put together makes
              the picture complete/beautiful.
Moral:  We are all like the box of crayons.  Each one of us is special and unique. Only by appreciating one anothers uniqueness can we lead a harmonious life - as one big family.

        "C" for Cleanliness

Cleanliness is being free from dirt.  We discussed the importance of having a clean body, a clean mind and how we can achieve it.

We can have a clean mind by practicing good actions/deeds/thoughts/speech/feelings.  By being clean, we come close to God.  "Cleanliness is Godliness".

              Activity/Exploration: Clean & Dirty
Through 3 glasses filled with water we explained that we can be dirty outside, dirty inside or clean throughout.  We choose to drink only from the clean glass.  Similarly, we choose to be friends with those who are clean both inside and outside.

             Story: "Madhav's Transformation"

The story is about how fairy Shubra helped a little boy named Madhav realize the importance of cleanliness.

How his encounter with a Squirrel, a Birdie, a puppy and piglet made the boy realize that....

-Being clean is a sign of purity or goodness.

-Cleanliness is most important for our physical & emotional well being.

-It makes people admire you or love you more

-If you are clean, the action (whatever) you do is also clean

                        -It helps improve our health

-It makes you successful as it enhances self-discipline.

-Cleanliness is next to Godliness (means, those who are clean/pure are close to God)

        "D" for Daddy

Daddy is the head and protector of the family.  He is kind, loving, selfless, caring & sacrifices a lot for the family. We discussed how God is our father/daddy and protector of the world.  Daddy is like God for the family.  Because daddies have the same                     qualities as God, they should revere their dads as they revere God.  "Pitrudevo Bhava"

                 Story:  "Father's Day"
This is the story about how a girl named Sonara Dodd started Father's Day in America.

        "E" for Enthusiasm

Enthusiasm is to love, enjoy and do things with excitement to reach your goal.
Children actively participated in exploring and explaining 'enthusiasm'. If we learn to love everything we do, we will be enthusiastic and cheerful all the time.

                Activity:  Wind-up toy
Hard work and enthusiasm is absolutely needed to achieve your goal.

                 Go, go, go, and fly,
                 Soar, soar in the sky,
                 Work, work hard and try,
You'll make it, just don't cry.

                Story: "Gitu's Place
This story is about a chipmunk named Gitu and how in spite of his physical impediments was able to contribute towards building a dam.
Gitu never gave up and was determined to do his part to save the village & forest from floods.  Enthusiasm is the key to any action.  Without it, we may give up too soon.

      "F" for Friendship

Friendship is a feeling of mutual affection and respect.  A true friend is helpful, nice, caring, a good listener, forgiving, and happy (for his friend when he/she does something nice or gets rewarded).
"A friend in need is a friend indeed"

Brainstorming:  On ways to start friendship & Ways to end friendship

to teach the value of treating friends nicely at all times
