Hari om parents,
Hope everyone is doing well! Here is the summary of our class (12/4/22)
1. We started our class with 3 OM's and the beginning prayers followed by shlokas for Lord Ganesha, Devi Saraswati & our Gurus.
2. We chanted 6 verses of Guru stotram.
3. We revised what we had learned with a fun game. Calling out a character's name and kids explained where in story we had learned about them,
4 Meditation - We did a 2 min meditation. Rupa aunty guided us about how Parikshit felt, what all he heard when he sat for meditation in the forest 🌳.
5. Story time - Varaha Avatar
Brahma is the creator of the entire universe. He created the first man and woman. The man was called Swayambhu Manu and the woman was called Satrupa. Manu asked his father where should i live with my kids. Earth is submerged in water. So please help me father.
Brahma thought and a boar no bigger than the size of thumb suddenly sprang out of his right nostril. Soon after coming out it acquired a huge and gigantic form. The Boar roared out aloud. Everyone knew him to be the incarnation of Shri Vishnu so they worshiped him. He had assumed this form for the good of the world.
The Boar dived deep down in the ocean and got ready to lift the earth . as he was lifting up, he was attacked by a demon Hiranyaksha. The boar was enraged and fought with the demon king. He pierced and tore open the demon king. Then he brought the earth above the surface of water, delicately balanced on his tusks. Devas watching this , burst forth into songs and glories of Narayana.
6 Story time - Rishi Kashyap
Sage Kashyap is a noble sage. Everyday he meditated and did puja in the evening. His beautiful wife Diti wanted to spend time with him. He asked her to wait but she did not listen and started fussing. So sage Kashyap finally gave up and left his puja & meditation. After some time Kashyap sat for meditation again. Diti knew that she had made a mistake, she felt bad and asked for forgiveness.
Kashyap told her that it was too late. He told her she had been wrong two fold - you have been the victim of your own desire and you disobeyed me. Two sons will be born to you. They will be extremely wicked and kill innocent people, cheat etc. When the three worlds can longer bear their deeds of violence, the Lord himself will incarnate to kill them. Diti was struck with remorse. Two asuras named Hiranyaksha & Hiranyakashipu born as her sons.
7. Likhita Japa - Kids enjoyed writing Om Namo Narayanaya in English as well as in Hindi & Sanskrit.
8 We gathered in the temple for closing prayers and Aarti.
Such a fun & interactive class. Love to see them participate and enjoy the stories.
