Our next class is on January 29th.
- Kids wrote Likhita japa for the first five minutes.
- We started off the class with the opening prayer (Dhyana shloka - Om Saha Navavatu)
- Mahabharata
- Sabha parva
- Mayasura built a palace of illusions for the Pandavas.
- In order for Yudhisthira to be accepted as emperor of Indraprastha, he was requested to perform Rajasuya yagna.
- Jarasandha
- Krsna advised the pandavas to kill Jarasandha as Jarasandha has captured one hundred kings and hence by releasing those kings, they will support and participate in Rajasuya yagna.
- Jarasandha was born split into two vertical halves and he was joined by a demoness named Jara.
- Krsna, Bhima and Arjuna went to meet Jarasandha.
- Fight ensued between Bhima and Jarasandha for many hours.
- Bhima split Jarasandha into two halves and threw the pieces. The pieces joined together.
- With the advice of Krsna, Bhima was able to kill Jarasandha by throwing the split pieces in opposite directions.
- The captured kings were released.
- Shishupala
- Shishupala was the cousin brother of Krsna and had extra arms and third eye when he was born
- When Krsna touched the child, the extra arms and third eye disappeared. It was destined that Krsna will kill Shishupala
- Shishupala's mother requested Krsna not to kill him. Krsna promised her that he will tolerate one hundred mistakes of Shishupala, but will kill him if he exceeds that count.
- During the Rajasuya yagna, Shishupala insulted Krsna and exceeded the count of one hundred mistakes.
- Krsna kills Shishupala
- Story of Jaya and Vijaya
- Jaya and Vijaya were the guards of Vaikuntha (abode of Lord Vishnu).
- Because Jaya and Vijaya insulted the four Kumaras, they were cursed to be born as humans.
- Jaya and Vijaya in order to hasten their return to Vaikuntam, they requested Vishnu to make them demons in their three births
- In first birth, Jaya and Vijaya were born as Hiranyaksha (of Varaha avatar) and Hiranyakshipu (of Narasimha avatar) and got killed by avatars of Lord Vishnu
- In second birth, they were born as Ravana and Kumbhakarna and got killed by Lord Rama (avatar of Vishnu)
- In third birth, they were born as Shishupala and Dantavakra.
- Insult of Duryodhana
- Duryodhana, when attending the Rajasuya yagna, gets lost in the palace and falls into a pool of water and gets laughed at.
- He became furious and wanted to take revenge on the Pandavas.
- Kids practiced the Bhagavad Gita chanting using the video - Verses 13 and 14 of Chapter 3
- We recorded the kids chanting (for house points) the first 5 verses of Bhagavad Gita chapter 3.
- Story of a Saint - Meerabai
- Meerabai was born in a royal family of Rajasthan.
- Her father is King Ratansingh of Jodhapur.
- Once a saint came to their palace and blessed Meera with a Krsna doll.
- Meera became a devotee of Krsna.
- She got married to King Bhojaraja. But she was always devoted to Krsna and lost herself in contemplation.
- She went to Vrindavan and met her Guru Ravidasa.
- She was a poet and wrote many Bhajans on Lord Krsna which are famous even today.
- She died at the age of 67 in Dwaraka, Gujarat.
- Aarati and pledge in the Temple Hall.
