Here is a summary of what we have covered in Balavihar in the month of January.
We open every class with the opening prayers.
Opening Prayers:
We open every class with three Oms, invoke the blessings of Lord Ganesha, Goddess Sarawathi, and our Gurus by chanting:
Om Shree Ganeshaya Namah
Om Shree Saraswathyai Namah
Om Shree Sadgurubhyoh Namah
Following this, we chant Sahanavavatu, and the following prayers:
Vakratunda Mahakaya
Saraswati Namastubhyam
Guru Brahma Guru Vishnu
Shubham Karoti
Shree Rama Rama Rameti
Karagre Vasate
Hanuman Chalisa
Additionally, since we have finished the Hanuman Dhyana Shloka, we are now beginning our unit on Hanuman Chalisa. As a prelude, we reviewed over two classes the story of the Ramayana. After setting the context for the Hanuman Chalisa, we began learning: so far, we have covered the Doha and 3 chaupais, as well as their meaning. To help the children learn and remember the meaning of the Chalisa, we have been engaging in activities that relate. For example, we played a game of Telephone (or Messenger) to go along with Hanuman's name of Rama dhoota (Rama's messenger). The children are enjoying learning the Chalisa and supplementing it with the games.
