Feb 5, 2023 - JCHYK Gr. 10-12 (Sunday AM)

Hari om everyone,

Here's a brief synopsis of our last class.

After meditation, we chanted Ch. 3 of Bhagavadgeeta.  We have learnt up to verse 39.

Our Kyun Kyun - (QQ - Quirky Question) for the day: There was a big marathon race, and a barber won the race easily.  Why?
This question stumped our class a little.  Ans: Because he took a 'short cut' ;).

After this, our class was very eager to discuss the menu and logistics for our Movie Day Out.
They want Pani puri, Pasta, Pizza, Samosa, Snacks, Drinks, etc.Emoji
They wanted to know if they have to sit cross-legged or if they could sit however they want.
They wanted to know the plot of the movie...

To pique the interest, we watched the trailer of the movie.  The theatre and menu are all set!  We are looking forward to having fun this Sunday.

Here's the link for anyone who missed the trailer.

Trailer of the Movie, Inception.

We continued our discussion of chapter 8 - Akshraparabrahma Yoga.
Akshara means - the imperishable; the changeless; the indestructible.

In this chapter, Arjuna asked 7 questions:
  • What are each of these - brahman, adhyaatma, karma, adhiboota, adhidaiva, and adhiyajna
  • How can one make sure they remember the Lord at the time of death?
Krishna had explained to Arjuna that brahman is the changeless supreme; adhyaama is His presence in each being; karma is the creative power within; adhiboota is the perishable world; adhiyajna is the selfless acts we perform for others; adhidaiva is the bhagavaan inside each one of us.

Krishna had said, he who leaves the body thinking of Me, will not be born again!
Wow!  That's simple then!! Why can't I live however I want and last minute, I can just think of him and die?  Won't I get mokSha?!

There are some technical problems here - do we know when we are going to die?  It could be now or many years later!  It could be when I am sitting here in class or it could be elsewhere!  It could be while I'm sleeping or when I am awake!  Upon breathing out, there is no guarantee that I will take the next breath in!  Then, how will I know at which exact moment I have to think of the Lord so I am free from re-birth?!  Even if I somehow realize I am going to die, at that moment, something that I have not practiced will not come to my mind at the last instant.  Whatever my mind is used to doing all the time, it will go there in that last moment also.  Hence, it is better to keep contemplating upon the nature of the Lord and myself all the time.

Knowing this, I will be able to drop my sorrows and worldly pains.

Why should I do this?  We saw this with our favorite dream example.  While I am in my dream, all the events of the dream will bother me.  I will be afraid of the lion that attacks me, I will be afraid of falling off the cliff, I will be thrilled taking a roller coaster ride, and I will laugh and cry according to the situation.  But when I wake up, I will see the futility of all the emotions I had, while in the dream. It was unreal after all!  When I apply this logic to my life and wake up to my true nature, I will be able to shun all my sorrow, pleasures, disappointments, etc.

We will see you Sunday for the movie. For now, we will leave you with these thoughts.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Regards,
Rashmi.
