March 5, 2023 -  Class Updates
  1. Kids wrote Likhita japa for the first five minutes.
  2. We started off the class with the opening prayer (Dhyana shloka - Om Saha Navavatu)
  3. Shloka chanting 
    1. We reviewed and practiced all the verses of Ganesha Pancharatnam
    2. We practiced the first verse of Ajam Nirvikalpam
    3. Kids did a great job in the class by following the chanting. Please ask them to practice
  4. We recorded the kids chanting (for house points) the verses 6-10 of Bhagavad Gita chapter 3.
  5. Mahabharata
    1. Continuation of Vana parva
      1. Pandavas and Draupadi were living in Kamakya vana. One day, Pandavas were away. Jayadratha happened to passby and saw Draupadi
      2. Jayadratha
        1. He was king of Sindhu kingdom and was married to Dushala, Dhrtarashtra's daughter. 
        2. When he was born, his father got him a boon - that Jayadratha can be killed only by weapon invoked by mantra and that whoever fell his head down, their head will break into thousand pieces
        3. After seeing Draupadi in Kamakya vana, he abducts Draupadi.
        4. Pandavas chased him and freed Draupadi. Yuddishthira did not want to kill him as Jayadratha was their brother -in-law.
        5. Bhima shaved Jayadratha's head with an arrow and released him
        6. Being humiliated by that incident, Jayadratha did penance towards Lord Shiva.
        7. Lord Shiva gave Jayadratha a boon that he will get the power to stop the four Pandavas (except Arjuna) in a battle for only one day.
  6. Kids practiced the Bhagavad Gita chanting using the video - Verses 21 and 22 of Chapter 3

  7. Story of Saints - Shri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and Swami Vivekananda
    1. Shri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa
      1. Shri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa was born in Bengal on February 18, 1836.
      2. His wife is Sharada Devi.
      3. He spread the spiritual teachings through parables and stories.
      4. Swami Vivekananda was his disciple
      5. He died in 1886.
    2.  Swami Vivekananda 
      1. Swami Vivekananda was born in Bengal on January 12, 1863.
      2. His childhood name was Narendranath.
      3. He was born in a rich family.
      4. His guru was Shri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa.
      5. After initiation by his guru, Narendanath became Swami Vivekananda.
      6. His speech in the World Parliament of Religions on September 11, 1893 in Chicago got famous. He started the speech with "Dear Sisters and Brothers of America"
      7. He established the Ramakrishna Mission
  8. Aarati and pledge in the Temple Hall.
