Lessons - Krishna krishna -

Dharma (in the form of the bull) previously had four legs namely, purity, austerity, kindness and truthfulness, and three of them were cut off by Kali. The bull was now  standing on just one leg, truthfulness. Kali begged the King for forgiveness. The King forgave him and allowed him to reside in five places (where Bhagavan is forgotten). They were places where lies were told, arrogance, cruelty, running after wealth and overwhelming desire existed.  King Pariksit allowed Kali to stay in 5 places, viz., 1. where the lord's name is forgotten,

2. where people talk only lies,

3. land of arrogance and being cruel,

4. Running behind the wealth and

5. Overwhelming desire 9the feeling of possessing more than our ability)

and hence Kaliyuga was born.

Even in Kaliyuga, one can avoid the influence of Kali by being truthful, kind, humble and charitable.

Staying away from kali

1. Speaking only the truth

2. Not being arrogant and cruel and

3. Not hoarding money.

the Hindu Creation Cycle of four yugas.

  1. Satya Yuga

  2. Tretayuga

  3. Dwapara Yuga

  4. Kaliyuga and we saw the avatars of Lord Vishnu from each yuga.

We are currently living in Kaliyuga, where Kali/Kalaha means, "to fight".

Kali usually brings his sister Durukti with him. Durukti means "bad words".

One day, King Parikshit goes hunting. Losing track of time he goes deep into the jungle. Tired and thirsty, he comes upon Sage Samika's ashram. There he finds the sage sitting with his eyes closed. He asks the sage for water many times. The sage, who is in deep meditation, is unaware of this, and does not respond. This angers the King, and he picks up a dead snake lying nearby and puts it around the sage's neck. The Sage still continues to meditate. The sage's son, who returns to the ashram sees this and is enraged. He curses King Pariksit that on the seventh day, the King will be bitten to death by a deadly snake, Takshaka. The King is unaware of this and returns to his palace. He realizes his fault and is upset with himself for having done such a bad thing. In the meantime, the sage who completed his meditation finds out about the curse, scolds his son for giving such a cruel curse, and sends the information about the curse to the King, so he is well prepared.

The King feels that he deserves the curse. He gives up his kingdom to his son, Janamejaya and starts living on the banks of Ganga. There many sages including Suka Deva, son of Veda Vyasa visit him. He wants to spend the last few days of his life thinking of the Lord. Suka Deva teaches him how to meditate, and starts telling him the Bhagavatam stories.

Quiz time- We showed them some slides and quizzed them. This was a fun activity where they all enjoyed and participated.

Gita time-we watched the primer video, Chanting Primer With BG Ch3 words - YouTube Please practice the words given in the video. This will be helpful as we learn the chapter 3 verses from subsequent classes. This year we will do Chapter 3 and our grade "Bharatha" category will have to memorize the first 25 verses.

Story time- From the "staying away from Kali" concept, we saw the story of a Young mahatma Gandhi ji who was around 9/10 years of age who wanted to speak the truth and did not take his teachers' help in correcting his work when an education inspection squad came to his school. He admitted that the story of Raja harischandra heavily has influenced and inspired. (my experiments with Truth)
