Oct 30, 2022 - JCHYK Gr. 10-12 (Sunday AM)

Hari om everyone,

Here is the summary for this week's class:

We started off with meditation and chanting Bhagavad Gita Chapter 3 (karma yoga - right action with the right attitude).  We have learned to chant up to verse no. 15.

Before marking attendance, we asked the Kyun Kyun - (QQ - Quirky Question) of the day: It was a math question, but using the calculator was not allowed.  If it takes 8 people 49.5 hours to build a 20x30 feet wall, how long does it take for 3 people, to build that same wall?

After the attendance was marked, we asked them for their answers.  We heard a few answers, down to the decimal point!  But then, they were all wrong...  Why?  Because the answer was - Zero hours... To build the "same wall" means we are speaking of the same wall that has already been built by the 8 workers!  The students had not heard the question in its entirety :).  They had rushed to remember the numbers and had started calculating.

With this QQ, we easily established that 'we listen to reply.., but not to understand!'  In our eagerness to reply, we could miss the main point.  In the first chapter, we had seen that Arjuna was lamenting like there was no tomorrow.  But Krishna was a patient listener.  He did not hear a couple words and jump to give advice to Arjuna.  He let him release his steam and ONLY when Arjuna sought help at the beginning of the second chapter did Krishna start talking.

With this, we learned both listening as well as speaking are special skills! Krishna had shown us the way at the very beginning of Bhagavadgeeta.

We had a short class today due to the House Inaugural Day event - special thanks to all our wonderful JCHYKs who did an excellent job being team captains and helping out the younger ones :)

We are repeating the same RAW (Reflection Adventure of the Week) as last time: What event made you smile this week?  What was the reason for it?

Until next time, will leave you with these thoughts

Regards,

Rashmi and Ananya
