Hari om everyone,
Here's a synopsis of our class this past weekend.
All of us assembled with lots of excitement and enthusiasm! We started off the class with a quick meditation to gather our thoughts and chanted only 5 verses from chapter 3. The reason - Bala Vihar had inducted 32 new teachers into teaching positions for the day!! Our JCHYKs were assigned in groups of 3-4 people to visit all the younger grades from K to 9 and teach them their respective curricula! As teams, they had coordinated with their assigned teachers over the last few days and understood the topics they needed to teach. They came up with games, interactive activities, fun quizzes, etc to deliver the material assigned to them.
This is something we have done every year over the last few years. ALL children at BV look forward to this event! Our JCHYKs enjoy being on the other end of the table (teaching) and their younger friends look up to them as they are their role models. They visualize being like them someday... This also gives our JCHYKs a taste of what it feels like to teach. Some of them end up coming back as teachers after graduating from High School too. Since everyone enjoys it so much, we may do this once again in February. We will keep you posted.
The feedback from all the teachers was extraordinary. They said that all the teams were so well prepared and the class was a lot of fun! Our students were very creative and spontaneous too. The teachers also liked getting an (almost) day off from the talking :). So, keep up the good work, everyone!
We reassembled in our class briefly and students shared their experiences. Some of them remembered their younger selves in those grades. They said, "I can't believe I used to be like that" :). Some said, "those kids know more characters and names than us!" Some appreciated that it is easier to teach if the kids were interactive and engaged!
Overall, it was a great day for everyone.
Here are a couple of clicks of our happy JCHYKs.
We will leave you with these thoughts
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving break. See you next week.
Regards,
Rashmi and Ananya.
