Nov 20, 2022 - Grade 3 (Sunday AM)

Hari om parents,

Hope everyone is staying warm & enjoying the season. Here is a summary of our class (11/20/22)

Today in our class the JCHYK's came to teach. The kids had fun with all the didi's😊. We played the ice breaker game (2 truths and 1 lie). It is always good to learn about our friends. Nishi, Nirni, Shweta & Priyanka came to our class.

1. We started our class with 3 OM's & the beginning prayers followed by shlokas for Lord Ganesha, Devi Saraswati and our Gurus.

2. We chanted the first 5 verses of Guru stotram.

3. We quickly reviewed with didi's what we had learned so far. Why did Parikshit put a dead snake on rishi Samika? Impatience of Parikshit cost him a lot. He was cursed by Shringi ( Samika's son) that he would die due to snake bite in a week.

4. Story time - King Parikshit meets Sukadev

Following this curse, the king handed over the throne to his son Janamejaya and went to live on the banks of river Ganga with his mind fixed on the Lord. Here on the Ganges bank, Parikshit was visited by a number of holy sages and Rishis. Among them were Vyasa, Agastya , Vashishta and many more. As they were all engaged in Lord's glories, the revered young sage Suka came. He was the son of Vyaasa, only 16 years old, his eyes shone bright and his face glowed as he had infinite knowledge and wisdom and an unceasing devotion for the lord.

Parikshit touched his feet in deep respect and stood before him with folded hands. To Sukadev he said, "O sage, please teach me the way of obtaining freedom from the chain of birth and death. Tell me what a man who is about to meet his death should do. ."

Suka smiled at him and advised him on how to meditate & Parikshit spent next seven days listening to the discourses of Sage Śuka dev. Everyone gathered to listen to the story ..

Moral - Age is just a number. Sukadev at 16 was very knowledgeable and taught many great rishis and sages.

5. Game time - We played Narad vadati ( just like Simon says) and used Sanskrit words for actions. It was so much fun.

6. Game time - We played hangman with the kids using the words we had learned so far. This was a very interesting & interactive game.

7. Aarti time - We all went to the temple for Aarti & closing prayers.

Kudos to the JCHYK's for engaging our class in such a creative manner. The kids loved the didi's so much.

Regards,

Chitra & Rupa.
