A thing is viewed by different people differently according to the makeup of their mind.

Analysis of fiber optic tree:

Class observes the fiber optic tree changing colors.

Q) How does this tree work?

A halogen bulb illuminates the tree, a thin multicolored film projects different colors as the color passes the bulb

Even our mind is colored by all past impressions we gather. We always form an opinion about something and view the object world accordingly.

Slide1:

Mind for the purpose of our understanding, may be considered as constituted of two sides - one facing the world of stimuli that reach it from the objects of the world. This is called the objective mind.

Slide 2:

The other side reacts internally to the stimulus received. This is called subjective mind as it faces the subject within.

Slide 3:

In case of a selfish acts, the mind (objective mind)and intellect (subjective mind)are separated from each other due to ego and ego centric desires. When the stimulus received by the objective mind passes through the ego with desires, they deposit fresh impressions (Vasanas) in the subjective Mind. Hence the resulting action always Carries a fragrance of old experiences.

Examples: demand for a things what other possess, demand for food, any recognition desired

Slide 4:

When actions are performed without coming under the sway of ego and egocentric desires, no fresh Vasanas are created but In turn they burn all the old Vasanas.

Examples: any volunteer work, any act of love and kindness towards siblings or friends or  pets, any charity work

Slide 5:

An individual is whole, healthy and happy in whom the objective and subjective aspects of the mind are united. In the moment of doubt, the objective mind is readily disciplined by the subjective mind.

Conclusion:

The gap between objective and subjective mind can be reduced by discipline and daily study of scriptures.

Mind becomes quiet since expectations end. When we are quiet our mind becomes very sharp. Our response to a situation becomes very dynamic.

Homework

Kids have to think of one quality which they want to overcome or adopt. They have to be mindful and practice throughout the week. We will have a checkpoint in the upcoming class. Anything can become a habit if repeated for 40 days.

Examples: waking up early in the morning, not going to bed late, putting the things away at home or simple chores like putting the trash out. Please remind them and encourage them to practice 🙏🏻

We also continued with Ramayana story with the Aranya Kanda.

Rama, Laxmana and Seeta leave Chitrakoota and enter the Dandaka forest. They settle down in Panchavati. Here Rama helps several Rishis by killing many of the rakhasas who were disrupting their penance. One day a rakshasi by the name of Shoorpanaka sees Rama and asks him to marry her. When Rama refused she felt humiliated when Laxmana also rejected her, she tried to attack Sita and Laxmana at that point cut off her nose and ears. She complains to her brothers Kharan and Dushana who are killed in their attempt to attack Rama. When she returns to Lanka and complains to Ravana, he seeks Maricha's help to capture SIta for revenge. Maricha initially dissuades Ravana and tells him not to stir the anger of Rama. Shoorpanaka fills Ravana's mind with a desire for Sita and Ravana returns to Maricha and tells him that he can either help him capture Sita or die at his hands. Maricha knows that he will die in the attempt to abduct Sita but decides that death at Rama's hands will be better. He agrees to help him.
