Bhagavatham Story Time - Prahlada:
Hiranyakasipu hated Lord Vishnu for killing his brother and vowed to take revenge. He performed intense tapas and received boon from Brahma, that made him very powerful. With the power of the boon, Hiranyakasipu conquered all the three worlds. He stopped all yagnas and sacrifices and told everyone to worship him alone. He started troubling everyone.
Prahlada was son of Hiranyakashipu. Prahlada was very much devoted to Lord Vishnu, but his father did not like it because he considered Vishnu as his enemy. Hiranyakashipu demanded that Prahlada worship him instead, but Prahlada refused, insisting that Vishnu was the true god. Enraged, Hiranyakashipu attempted to kill Prahlada in various ways, but each time he was miraculously saved by Vishnu. Finally, Hiranyakashipu challenged Prahlada to show him where Vishnu was. Prahlada said Vishnu is everywhere. Hiranyakashipu pointed at a pillar and asked if Hari (Vishnu) is there. Prahlada said yes. Hiranyakashipu, in his anger, struck the pillar with his mace, causing it to split open and reveal Vishnu in his half-man, half-lion form, Narasimha. Narasimha roared fiercely, picked up Hiranyakasipu, took him to the threshold of the house, placed him on his lap and killed him. Everyone in the world was happy as the evil asura was destroyed.
Prahlada performed the last rites of his father, and with the Lord's blessings became a great king. After ruling for many many years, Prahlada became one with the Lord.
Geeta chanting:
We practiced verses 19 & 20 of Geeta chapter 3.
We concluded the class with Aarthi, prayer and Pledge.
