Lessons and activities

Ramayana Continued.

We had a shorter class this week due to the stage performances of Grade 6 and 9.

We recapped the story from last week. Having achieved the success on his mission, Hanumanji flew back with lightning speed to report the good news to his search party. The search party including Angada and Jambavan were thrilled to hear the news. They all set out to Kishkinda but halted at Madhuvana grove which was special to Sugriva and went on rampage, eating and drinking. Sugriva sensed the success of vanaras in the search and was unmindful of the damage. Hanumanji narrated the episode of Sita's discovery to Lord Rama elaborately. He then gives the crest jewel of Sita to Rama. Rama embraces Hanumanji with gratefulness and love.

Rama along with vanaras reach the southern tip. Rama surveys the vast expanse of the sea.

At Lanka, Ravana, shaken by the havoc caused by Hanumanji, calls his ministers to discuss the future course of action. Ministers remind Ravana of his past victories and encourage him to stand up against Rama. Vibhishana, however, pleaded with Ravana that he return Sita. Kumbhakarana, who was awake then, was also consulted for his advice. He points out the unrighteousness of his brother. Seeing his advice falling in deaf ears, Kumbhakarna agrees to fight against Rama. Vibheeshana continued his line of argument against Ravana. Annoyed with him, Ravana hurled harsh words and told him that he would never want to see his face again. Renouncing his family, clan and possessions, he crossed the sea along with four other followers to seek refuge in Rama. All the leaders at the Rama side were very apprehensive about Vibhishana. Hanumanji spoke on the side of Vibheeshana stating the reasons for taking him in. Rama spoke his heart that he would never abandon anyone who sought refuge in him.
