Mar 12, 2023 - Grade 9 (Sunday AM)

Hari om Parents,

We had a quick recap of the last class of types of Karma and how it affects our lives. This class was about Sanskaras.

In Sanatana Sanskriti, we celebrate various stages in our lives as special events. These are sometimes celebrated as social events but they carry a deeper meaning. This deeper meaning comes from Upanishads. These are encoded in our lifestyle and called Sanskaras.

The samskaras that we follow are:
  • Upanayana
  • Samavartana
  • Vivaha
  • Garbhadhana
  • Pumasavana
  • Simantonnayana
  • Jatakarna
  • Namakarana
  • Niskramana
  • Annaprasana
  • Cudakarma
  • Karnavedha
  • Vidyarambha
  • Vanaprastha
  • Samnyasa
  • Antyesti
We were fortunate to get some pictures from parents on sansakaras in their family. We shared these pictures with the class and it helped them to understand these sanskaras better.

This week's summary was written by Abhinandan.

Samskaras are a concept that refer to the impressions or imprints left on the mind by experiences in one's life. These imprints can influence an individual's thoughts, behaviors, and tendencies, even into future lifetimes according to some beliefs. There are typically many samskaras that mark significant milestones in a person's life, such as birth, and death. The goal is to purify these samskaras through various spiritual practices in order to attain liberation from the cycle of birth and death and achieve moksha, or spiritual liberation. Some students first learning about samskaras might find the concept of samskaras fascinating and be curious to learn more about how their past experiences and conditioning can influence their current behavior and future lives. Other students might find the idea of samskaras overwhelming or confusing. Regardless, I believe that samskaras are a necessary part of everyone's life and lead to a successful life.
