March 19, 2023 - Class Updates
Our next class is on March 26th.
- Kids wrote Likhita japa for the first five minutes.
- We started off the class with the opening prayer (Dhyana shloka - Om Saha Navavatu)
- Shloka chanting
- We reviewed and practiced all the verses of Ganesha Pancharatnam
- We reviewed the first and second verses of Ajam Nirvikalpam and practiced the third verse
- Kids did a great job in the class by following the chanting. Please ask them to practice
- Mahabharata
- Virata Parva begins
- Pandavas along with Draupadi completed their twelve years of exile and were about to begin the year of incognito (Ajnata vasa).
- Choosing where to go
- Arjuna provided the list of kingdoms to select from
- Dwaraka - Krsna's kingdom
- Panchala - Drupada's kingdom
- Videha
- Shalva
- Magadha - Kingdom of Jarasandha
- Kalinga
- Matsya - Kingdom of Virata - known for wealth of cattle
- Kids were given a map of India to color in the different kingdoms
- Yudhishthira chose the Matsya kingdom as the King Virata is noble and virtuous.
- Selecting a place to hide their weapons
- Pandavas chose a sami tree to hide their weapons
- They wrapped up the weapons in animal skin and hid them in the branches of the tree
- Pandavas and Draupadi disguises
- In order to remain in incognito, Pandavas and Draupadi decided on the disguises
- They came up with code names - Jaya, Jayesha, Vijaya, Jayatsena, Jayadbala / Jayatvala.
- Kids practiced the Bhagavad Gita chanting using the video - Verses 26 and 27 of Chapter 3
- Story of a Saint - Suradasaji
- Suradasaji was born in 1478 A.D. He was born blind. He was not taken care of by his family
- One day, he followed a group of singers. He learnt Bhajans from the singers
- He started singing Krsna bhajans and people gave him food.
- One of his songs is about Gajendra Moksha
- Kids learned the story of Gajendra Moksha
- Akbar once heard a beautiful song sung by his musician Tansen and asked Tansen who was the composer of that song
- Tansen mentioned that Suradasaji was the composer.
- Akbar met Suradasaji and invited him to be his court musician, but Suradasa refused.
- Values to be learned from him -be good and be devoted to God
- Aarati and pledge in the Temple Hall.
