Hari om parents,
Hope everyone is doing well! Here is the summary of our class (4/23/23)
1. We started our class with 3 OM's and the beginning prayers followed by shlokas for Lord Ganesha, Devi Saraswati & our Gurus.
2.We chanted the Guru Stotram, all the verses.
3. We revised by asking questions and connected the dots to our story. Here is a summary of what we revised.
Jay and Vijay were two gatekeepers of Lord Vishnu's abode, Vaikuntha. They were cursed by the four Kumaras, who were angry at being stopped from entering Vaikuntha by Jay and Vijay, who didn't recognize them. The curse caused Jay and Vijay to be born on Earth as demons.
Hiranyakashipu was one of the demons born as a result of the curse. He was the brother of another demon, Hiranyaksha, who was killed by Lord Vishnu's third avatar, Varaha. Hiranyakashipu sought revenge and became determined to defeat Lord Vishnu.
So, the connection between Hiranyakashipu and Jay Vijay is that they were all characters, with Hiranyakashipu being one of the demons born as a result of the curse on Jay and Vijay.
4. Story time - Hiranyakashipu
Hiranyakashipu's boon was granted by Lord Brahma and it made him almost invincible. According to the story, Hiranyakashipu performed intense penance and meditation to please Lord Brahma. When Lord Brahma appeared before him, Hiranyakashipu asked for a boon that would make him immortal. However, Lord Brahma informed him that immortality was not possible as even the gods were mortal.
So, Hiranyakashipu asked for a different boon - that no one could kill him during the day or night, inside or outside, on the ground or in the sky. Lord Brahma granted him the boon, making him almost impossible to kill.
Hiranyakashipu became arrogant and believed that he was invincible. He thought that he was above all the gods and demanded that everyone worship him instead of the gods. His son Prahlad, however, remained devoted to Lord Vishnu, which enraged Hiranyakashipu.
Despite his invincibility, Hiranyakashipu was eventually defeated by Lord Vishnu, who took the form of Narasimha and killed him. This shows that even the most powerful beings can be defeated by the power of devotion and righteousness.
5. Mindful Meditation - We did an awesome 3 minute meditation. The best part is kids are doing a fantastic job.
