Hari Om Parents
We started the class by our daily prayers and Ganesh Pancharatnam and Nirvana Shatakam. We recorded the verses and also recorded Bhagavad Gita until 20th Sholka to share with Geeta yagnam team. We discussed ram navami festival which was celebrated on Thursday 30th March, and spoke about the importance of it. In various parts of India ram Navami is a week-long festival where some plays harikatha are sung on lord rama's life. Some places they do Valmiki or Tulasi ramayan parayan .
Harikatha- is a form of storytelling used in India, the first person who did harikatha was Narada muni. A person who performs harikatha has chaplis in their hands, they sing the glory of Lord. We spoke about the traditions of India, on how a festival is celebrated. Everyone mentioned a few things they do on festival days. Why do we clean our houses and put rangoli, tie mango leaves.Mango leaves- have oxygen emitting capacity even after plucked from trees.
Rangoli-is made with rice flour outside the houses. It is a way of welcoming and also it is for Bhuta runa(the ants come and eat the rice flour). Kids were handed out papers and everyone tried doing rangoli, few were very creative and also helped their friends to learn to do rangoli. Please try to make kids do little rangolis during festival times. They were very excited about this. We reviewed what we learnt about the contributions of our ancient historians to the society. We concluded with our Gita chanting by learning new verses 31 and 32.
It was about time to leave for us to attend the Grade 9 Monthly program at the prayer hall.
