May 14, 2023 - JCHYK Gr. 10-12 (Sunday AM)

Hari om everyone,

This Sunday, I thought I will be missing my daughter's college commencement ceremony as it was at the same time as Bala Vihar. At the last minute, I approached Swamini Amma Radhikananda ji and explained the situation to her.  She was so gracious and she agreed to come and teach our class even though it was a short notice!!  Thank you, Amma :).

I am sure our students had a fun time, rocking along with Amma's guitar :).  Below is the synopsis of the class sent by Amma -

We began class with our Invocation prayers and a guided Meditation in which we envisioned going into that secret place in the heart where our true Self dwells as pure silence, peace and joy. Following this, we sang a bhajan on Lord Shiva - "Shambho Shankara", accompanied by my guitar and students played along with several extra percussion instruments I'd brought along (drum, kartals, tambourine, shaker).
I had brought in a large traditional painting of the Viswarupa-Darshan from Gita, Chapter 11 and we discussed this image for a short time in relation to  Arjuna's experience and, also, its meaning for us. In essence, to remember that I and the Divine are One, and that each of us possess all the divine qualities of Joy, Peace, Love and Inspiration, etc. We merely have to unfold what is already within us. All the knowledge and ways of purifying and preparing our mind we learn in these classes and elsewhere are helping us tune our mind with that Higher Self which is one with the Lord. We discussed how this recognition gets veiled from us when we think we are limited to the body and mind alone which creates thoughts and feelings of limitation, fear, stress and worry, comparison with others, inferiority & superiority, etc.
Next, I let the students ask me personal questions if they wished; such as, how I (as an American-born, non-Indian) got interested in Hinduism and Vedanta, how did my parents react, etc.
We concluded class by my singing and playing for them a light-hearted (but realistic!) song I'd composed a number of years ago called "Doership Blues."
I enjoyed the class with the students very much and I hope they did, too!
     Hari Om!

Looks like it was a fun class!
Missing you all 💕   I will see you next time 😊

Regards,
Rashmi.
